Non-Fiction Expert Group Presentation Reflection

Image
We have just finished our non-fiction presentations. My group were experts on Germs. Here is Group Presentation . The most interesting thing I learnt about was that not all germs are bad. Some can actually be good because I read it in a book and the information had facts about germs. My job in my group was to talk about how to keep germs from invading in your body and talk about what I learnt to my group in the books because tat's how you work as a team. What I would do differently next time is to not worry about if you forget your lines because if you do then you get overwhelmed and a little scared and then you can mess up even more. I enjoyed it because it was really fun learning about germs and how they move around. Also making the presentation because I learned what other people learned in the presentation.

Genre Pizza

Image
This semester our teacher set us a challenge to read eight different genre's in 14 weeks. The genre's we had to read were: Mystery - The Case of the missing Marquess by Nancy Springer  Historical Fiction - Laura and the Gray Mare by Kathleen Duey  Non-Fiction- Pandas by Heather Angel Biography-Samuel Adams by Jennifer Blizin Gillies Graphic Novel -Smile by Rania Telgmeier   Fantasy- Somebodies by N.E.Bode Realistic Fiction-So B. it by Sarah Weeks Action/Adventure-Earthquak Terror by Peg Kehret     I completed the challenge a month before and to celebrate we ate a lot of pizza. I ate 2 slices of pizza and I my teacher made me eat fruit too. The Genre I enjoyed I most enjoyed is Realistic Fiction because it had so much realistic interesting things in the book. The Genre I did not enjoyed was Mystery because it is so suspicious and I think that is kind of creepy  if you know what I mean.   The Genre I discover and that I liked was Grap...

Tabitha Jump-A-Thon -Visit by Janne Ritske

Today, Janne Ritske will be visiting us to discuss her foundation, Tabitha.  We will be doing the Jump-a-thon on   Tuesday, 21 January   to raise funds for this worthy cause.      I learned that all they want to do is make dreams happen. A year when they graduated 25,446 families with 203,568 dependents. What this means to me is that when they are making there dreams come true the Cambodian's seem to really think they care about them and acknowledge them. Each new water well changes the lives up to 40 people. This tells me they are really glad to have us helping them. They help build houses and schools for cambodians and get them clean water from the pumps. It is so amazing how they help them so much. She adopted a girl from Cambodia too. She loans money to the cambodian's and she pays to make the houses and schools. She cares so much about them. Questions: What idea got you in to starting Tabitha by helping Cambodia? Who makes the Tabitha stuff? ...

My Crunch Reflection

Image
I am good crunches because I have a lot of upper body strength. I do gymnastics so I get a lot and I just preserver with my crunches. What I need to improve with crunch is that I need to push myself farther with my arms to my knee. I will do it by prat icing 3 days a week.

My Push-Up Reflection

Image
I am good at doing push ups because I can do a lot of push ups because of my arm strength. What I did well was that that I can do a lot of push ups. I think what I need to do is maybe push down more in my push ups. I should do it to 90%. I will keep pushing myself down every 3 days of a week.

Essay Comparison

I now know that the difference between a personal and persuasive essay is that you are trying to tell people what you think when you are writing a personal essay but with the persuasive essay you are convincing them of what you think. I improved from my on demanded essay is that I put proof why I think this and put facts that convince them to think. As in the other one I just said why I thought it was a bad idea and you shouldn't do it. It wasn't I think making them care about not doing the topic. I added mini stories and facts in the other two, but not in the other one. Writing my persuasive essay was easy because I had a lot of ideas in the topic and it was easy for me to think of convincing facts. But writing my persuasive essay was also hard because we had to do it quickly and it was hard to do it and think it all thorough with the planning sheet. My new learning is this whole unit is, that you need to put facts and mini stories in these essay's and get them to ca...

My Personal Essay

It is the Hardest to Be the Youngest Sibling     I don’t understand. Why? Why do my sisters try to be the worst sisters in the world? They pick on me, and are never really nice, they say mean stuff, and boss you around so MUCH! I wish just for ONE DAY,they would be nice. Like big sisters should be. It feels like someone just leaving you off by yourself in the dust. When I was young, and I still now, my sister’s would always target on me when they are mad. Sometimes, my mom and my sister Genevieve, had a argument about my mom, because, she was helping my sister, and she got all annoyed and was mad at my mom. Then when they were done, and I had nothing to do, she walked over to me and tripped me, it wasn’t fair. But probably it was because I was the youngest and they didn’t care about it if they hurt me.  When my sister was arguing before dinner she sometimes copies me when I say something at the dinner table but quietly because she doesn’t want to be in trouble ...

UN Day Reflection

I enjoyed the most on UN day was was the presentation because it was a really fun experience. The yummiest thing I ate was paella that Michelle's mom made because it was something that I never ever tried t and it was delicious. I dressed up in a Chinese dress because that is the dress the Chinese people dress in. What we did to get ready for the assembly to create the show we made as a class, we got in a group, and got a nursery rhyme. Then we found the story be hide these nursery rhymes. Maddy and Mina got the part to do the intro and conclusion. We then drew the picture from the true story's of these nursery rhymes. Then we sang the song and made up actions. On the week it was the assembly we went to the theater and practice all of it.

My new learning today was when we all learned how to make cotton candy and lollipops and how the lollipops bubbled in the pot so then we could know to put it to low.  It had bubbles because gas went into the syrup pot. We all stirred it so then it wouldn't harden. If it did harden then it would be hard to pour into the little cups that had some butter but not to much butter or else it would taste like butter then lollipops. We waited for it to cool down and then put in the sticks so then it would stick to the stick easily.  I most enjoyed making the cotton candy with the wooden stick and twisting it around in the machine, and getting bundle's of it each turn you got the cotton candy. When you turned  the machine on the machine on the sugar flew out on our faces. When we always twisted it and nothing came it was because it goes so fast that it goes onto the sides of the machine but inside of it. What I would do next time is that I would we should have stirred the candy...

Questions for Salva Dut

Tomorrow I will meet Salva Dut. From my reading and viewing about him, these are some questions I would like answered: How did you learn how to speak English? Answer: He went to a school and learnt english.  What did you eat in the refugee camp? Did your Dad get sick because there was no clean water?Yes he did but Salva Dut saved him from dying.  What were you feeling when you went to American? What did you feel when you walked to Kenya? He was tried and wanting to eat and sleep.  The most interesting thing I learnt from Salva Dut was how water is so important in life and try to save it as much as you can and that if you want food you have to wash it by using water, water is so important. Before today I didn't know that he was one of the first ones from the lost boys to go to America and how special it was for him to do that instead of being in that refugee camp. One thing I may do differently from now on is that I will try to save water as much as I ca...

My Goals

Reading - choosing a JR book and being confident in my choice. I will do this by looking a blurb and listening to others recommendations. I will be OK with abandoning a book. I will know I have achieved this goal when I have most of my books at JR book level. Also, I will complete the bamboo stalk challenge. Writing – every time I write I will plan out my ideas before I begin and refer back to them as I write. I will know I have achieved this if my writing is clear and focused, and each piece has a plan. To use diagrams and models to help explain math problems. I will do this by selecting what model would be best to explain each problem and supporting this by using precise math vocabulary to explain her answers. I will know I have achieved this when I consistently scores a 3 on my Quick checks. I will work on this each math day until March. What I enjoyed the most about conferences is: that everybody listen to each other and understood what the other people were saying ...

Seasickness

Seasickness I jumped excitedly onto the gigantic king boat.  A breeze blew in through my head. That felt good, I though with comfort. Then the gigantic boat suddenly moved back and then jerked forward in a hurry. I felt a headache trying to come in with a queasy sort of feeling too. “AHH,” I whispered in a bubbly thought. I jumped of the ring of the boat to see the biggest whale in the world. Then everybody came over to the shiny boat side to see too. Can’t breathe can’t breathe can’t breathe, we were packed tighter than sardines in a can. I looked side to side to see my family thinking to myself How can I escape? How? How? How? Then the crowd vanished, because there were no whales in sight. Right then my family came over saying in a aching voice, “Are you alright?”          “Yeah, duh of course.” I responded in a kind of mad expression. We all sat down on the dull, hard ground. As we all curiously looked out for whales from the side ...

Reading Log Reflection

Image
In my reading log I notice that I'm reading just right books. 5th grade typically read 3/4 page per minute. I'm typically reading 24 pages in 20 minutes. A new author I am passionate about is Sarah Weeks because she has so much emotion in her book and suspends.  One reading habit this year was the genre pizza to really help me read different genre's because I have read so many realistic fiction and fantasy and I need to read different genre's.

RLA Reflection

Image
In Reading, we have been learning new ways to think about our novels. The most helpful type of thinking for me has been: Envisioning.   Here is an example of envisioning: In the book Ida B by Katherine Hannigan, I feel how Mama and Daddy are feeling, they are feeling disappointed that they have a child that eats the same thing for breakfast and lunch. This makes me think Ida B doesn't like other lunches and I think it isn't healthy because all that is in Ida B is Peanut Butter and Cereal. This helps me because it tells me the things I have learnt like if I go into another grade I will see it and it will probably help in life with lots of things like notes.

Science

Image
We have finished out our 1st investigation it was on Mixtures and Solutions. The new learning I have discovered is Solutions because I really didn't know what the meaning was for it then. So then when I saw that the salt just dissolved into the water then we put it in the sun my science group told me. The most interesting thing I have learnt is how separate dry mixtures, but the thing is, my science group and I made the instructions which was fun to do because it was like we were really real life sciences. The thing I have most enjoyed is looking at the crystal. We left the water and salt out in the sun and then the next science class we went to look at it again. It was crystal. They had X's in the square box of the crystal. I liked it because it looked really cool and it was interesting how now to make a crystal. It went in a cycle that's why now it is a crystal.

Useful and Readable Text

Mighty Moose-Backyard: If I were writing a report on Moose I would use this website because their is information for moose is teaching you things. They have riddles too. Just so then we can have a little fun. Life in the Trees is a breeze-Ranger Rick: If I were writing a report on orangutan I would use this website because it is telling us lots of information for us to know. I could probably write something, like a zip out of it. Tropical Deforestation-Observatory: If I were writing a report I would not use this website because it terribly hard to understand for information.  It is not at all organized.

Core Values Assignment

Responsibility and Compassion By:Hazel Ann Felder Responsibility is doing what you need to get done. There are a lot of examples but I will only share a few of them. Compassion is kind and helping others.   For example: Everyday I come home. I do my homework, then I practice my cello, take my bath and then I usually set the table and sometimes help with dinner. That shows help for me and my family and it shows responsibility. This is compassion because I am helping me and my family with chores.  Another example is: Everyday zoo keepers feed the animals,Clean the cages, take care of the animals very well and make sure they are safe not like the life they had before. That shows a lot about responsibility because they care about the animals a lot. This shows Compassion that they are helping animals survive. Finally: teachers have a big responsibility to help children learn. Always never leave their students hanging with questions, help them to ...

Pandas and Bunnies

Once upon a time there was a Princess Panda and her sister Princess Bunny. Their name was Princess Panda-Wanda and Princess Knuffle Bunny. Their parents name was Queen Bunny and King Panda. One day while the Princesses were playing outside a evil wicht came and made weird nosies. The Princesses were scared and ran inside where their mother and father was. They told them about it and the King said it was fake but then he heard the noise. But still he thought it was fake. That night the evil wicht had a key that could unlock any door. She quietly took Princess Panda-Wanda and ran to where she stayed. When Princess Panda-Wanda waked up she was scared. Where was he she thought. Then the evil witch came in. Hello Princess. You will never ever go back to you're parents again you will stay with me for the rest of your life. The Princess bravely said "Exces me but I will always go back to my parents." Well but how you are trapped ...

Concerns of the World Poetry

The Giant Panda's Woods of China By Julia and Torrey A long time ago When Pandas weren't endangered They roamed the woods of China And had a choice of what to eat But now-a-days China's bear population is like seeing a dinosaur People say "who cares " "They are doing fine" But if they were a panda Seeing ancestors worn as a fancy ball gown But anyway they have to eat plants with chemicals Cause they can't find clean plants In the woods of China. http://www.childrenoftheearth.org/seigelman2000.htm
