My new learning today was when we all learned how to make cotton candy and lollipops and how the lollipops bubbled in the pot so then we could know to put it to low.  It had bubbles because gas went into the syrup pot. We all stirred it so then it wouldn't harden. If it did harden then it would be hard to pour into the little cups that had some butter but not to much butter or else it would taste like butter then lollipops. We waited for it to cool down and then put in the sticks so then it would stick to the stick easily.  I most enjoyed making the cotton candy with the wooden stick and twisting it around in the machine, and getting bundle's of it each turn you got the cotton candy. When you turned  the machine on the machine on the sugar flew out on our faces. When we always twisted it and nothing came it was because it goes so fast that it goes onto the sides of the machine but inside of it. What I would do next time is that I would we should have stirred the candy...

Questions for Salva Dut

Tomorrow I will meet Salva Dut. From my reading and viewing about him, these are some questions I would like answered: How did you learn how to speak English? Answer: He went to a school and learnt english.  What did you eat in the refugee camp? Did your Dad get sick because there was no clean water?Yes he did but Salva Dut saved him from dying.  What were you feeling when you went to American? What did you feel when you walked to Kenya? He was tried and wanting to eat and sleep.  The most interesting thing I learnt from Salva Dut was how water is so important in life and try to save it as much as you can and that if you want food you have to wash it by using water, water is so important. Before today I didn't know that he was one of the first ones from the lost boys to go to America and how special it was for him to do that instead of being in that refugee camp. One thing I may do differently from now on is that I will try to save water as much as I ca...

My Goals

Reading - choosing a JR book and being confident in my choice. I will do this by looking a blurb and listening to others recommendations. I will be OK with abandoning a book. I will know I have achieved this goal when I have most of my books at JR book level. Also, I will complete the bamboo stalk challenge. Writing – every time I write I will plan out my ideas before I begin and refer back to them as I write. I will know I have achieved this if my writing is clear and focused, and each piece has a plan. To use diagrams and models to help explain math problems. I will do this by selecting what model would be best to explain each problem and supporting this by using precise math vocabulary to explain her answers. I will know I have achieved this when I consistently scores a 3 on my Quick checks. I will work on this each math day until March. What I enjoyed the most about conferences is: that everybody listen to each other and understood what the other people were saying ...

Seasickness

Seasickness I jumped excitedly onto the gigantic king boat.  A breeze blew in through my head. That felt good, I though with comfort. Then the gigantic boat suddenly moved back and then jerked forward in a hurry. I felt a headache trying to come in with a queasy sort of feeling too. “AHH,” I whispered in a bubbly thought. I jumped of the ring of the boat to see the biggest whale in the world. Then everybody came over to the shiny boat side to see too. Can’t breathe can’t breathe can’t breathe, we were packed tighter than sardines in a can. I looked side to side to see my family thinking to myself How can I escape? How? How? How? Then the crowd vanished, because there were no whales in sight. Right then my family came over saying in a aching voice, “Are you alright?”          “Yeah, duh of course.” I responded in a kind of mad expression. We all sat down on the dull, hard ground. As we all curiously looked out for whales from the side ...

Reading Log Reflection

Image
In my reading log I notice that I'm reading just right books. 5th grade typically read 3/4 page per minute. I'm typically reading 24 pages in 20 minutes. A new author I am passionate about is Sarah Weeks because she has so much emotion in her book and suspends.  One reading habit this year was the genre pizza to really help me read different genre's because I have read so many realistic fiction and fantasy and I need to read different genre's.

RLA Reflection

In Reading, we have been learning new ways to think about our novels. The most helpful type of thinking for me has been: Envisioning.   Here is an example of envisioning: In the book Ida B by Katherine Hannigan, I feel how Mama and Daddy are feeling, they are feeling disappointed that they have a child that eats the same thing for breakfast and lunch. This makes me think Ida B doesn't like other lunches and I think it isn't healthy because all that is in Ida B is Peanut Butter and Cereal. This helps me because it tells me the things I have learnt like if I go into another grade I will see it and it will probably help in life with lots of things like notes.
